Introduction
Allah ( سبحانه و تعالى ) out of His Grace and Mercy has made Islam a way of life that can be practiced in every situation and at any time. In an age and in a place where the degeneration of society is bringing the concept of morality to a halt at an alarming pace, humanity’s need for true guidance is more apparent than ever. Day by day it becomes more obvious that the one and only way that will bring the entire mankind solace, comfort and prosperity must be introduced and implemented. However, before this way (the way of Islam) can be introduced to humanity at large, appropriate measures must be taken to awaken the flag bearers of truth; the Muslims. They must be reminded of their responsibility to bring Islam into their lives and to keep it alive through the coming generations. Otherwise, social and moral degeneration may remove any hope of prosperous society. An important and key element in this awakening process is the establishment of institutions of higher Islamic learning. In these institutions, youth who are the foundation of our future, can learn the true and practical essence of Islam. This training will take place in an environment conductive to both the learning and practising of the highest morals and conduct known to mankind, the Qur’an and Sunnah. Those individuals who will learn in such an atmosphere will Insha-Allah, be instrumental in the establishment, propagation and protection of Islam in present and future generations.
History and Background
Jaamiah Al-Uloom Al-Islamiyyah ( جامعيه العلوم الاسلاميه ) officially opened in the summer of 1992 in town of Ajax located 20 km west of Toronto. With extremely limited facilities, the Jaamiah at first admitted nine students who were to board in a double-family house. Classes were held in a transformed garage, which also served as Ajax local mosque. Over the years, grueling efforts were made on part of management, teachers, students and local Muslims to establish the new school, and Allah ( سبحانه و تعالى ) left no effort unrewarded.
By the grace of Allah, in the short span of eight years, over sixty (60) students have completed memorization of the Holy Qur’an, ten (10) students have completed the Aalim program. The Jaamiah has expanded to meet the urgent growing need to facilitate more students. A new building has been constructed on the same 15-acre property to accommodate a capacity of 130 students. The three-story structure is designed to provide all the required amenities, including class rooms, boarding rooms, offices, a library, a computer lab, prayer area as well as ample recreation area.
