Jaamiah Mosque
Due to increased demand for Islamic education coupled with the growth of the Muslim community in Toronto, the original facility constructed has met its capacity. This has prompted the planning and proposed construction of a new mosque and class room building located next to the current building. This new structure will be home to the new Ajax Mosque, will have newer classrooms, a standard gymnasium, a cold room and several other community / education-friendly amenities. As of September 2000, the plans and go-ahead have been approved by the Town of Ajax. The foundation is set to be laid shortly.
The Jaamiah has also outgrown its girls’ school facilities. A committee is under commission to procure a newer more spacious building also in Toronto. In addition, several part-time evening programs are being setup in surrounding areas for the convenience of children who attend regular schools. Also as of September 2000, full-time day school has begun at the Jaamiah for younger students not age-eligible to attend the regular madressa program. As a result, parents in the Toronto and the Ajax area now have the option of enrolling their children in an Islamic environment from the very beginning.
In effect, the current institution is not stagnant. The evolving Muslim community and their diverse needs prompts us to always be moving forward, and Insha-Allah we look forward to exciting things ahead with your support.
